Veteran Guide, Mickey Baron assists clients on his 21’ Champion
(Fish Magnet) flats style bay boat. Mickey has extensive knowledge of Crowley Lake
and has been working as the assistant manager for the fish camp for many
seasons. In many peoples opinion Mickey is "Father Crowley".
The "Turtle" has been with us for six seasons and is without a doubt one of the
best guides on Crowley. He has a wonderful personality and great sense of humor, as well
as excellent skills for teaching beginning fly fishers the fundamentals of
casting and stillwater nymphing techniques. Mick's client's go with him,
or do not go. This fact should speak for itself. He has earned a
reputation by hard work and a passion for putting people on fish. The
"Turtle" has also developed an arsenal of chironomid patterns that get grabs
when no others do. He is an innovative tier and is the manufacturer of
the best strike indicator known to man, the "Sungicator".
After
Crowley Lake closes in November, you can find Mickey on the long range
fleet in San Diego chasing giant Yellow fin Tuna and Wahoo. He has
several dozen tuna in the 100 lb class, and a few that exceed the 200 lb mark.
He is still trying to get that elusive 300 mark.

By February,
Mickey is busy tying several thousand flies for the next Crowley season,
and making all of our famous strike indicators.

April, you’ll
find Mickey back at the Fish Camp lending a hand getting the tackle shop,
boats, and docks ready for the upcoming fishing season.
We Let Our Clients do the talking...Here's
What Some Have Said About Spending their day with Mickey:
~We did (finally) have
our half day with Mickey and enjoyed him very much. I wanted him to
know that we have chosen one of the pictures he took of me for our
"Memory Wall". The photo that he took of me with my back showing,
Pole Bent, and the beautiful view of the mountains in the background
will be labeled "Fish On", Crowley Lake, CA. Thanks again, Mickey, for
a enjoyable time. We'll see you next year (we are already booked for
another 3 weeks at the Double Eagle. Rita Prizio
~Mickey,
Here's a few pics
from last Saturday, the best "Fathers day" outing I can remember.
Personally I can't imagine getting 25 of those bows to the boat. My
wrists would stop functioning I think. Don't get me wrong.......I
wouldn't miss the chance to try it. Love
to BBQ a big dinner for you, Tom and the crew for being so open and
informative. You're good people.
Look forward to
hearing from you Mickey.......My utmost thanks again!

~Lee and I had a
great time with you last Wednesday. Lee swears I lost 20 fish from
talking too much. We are sure glad the wind let up. Even though we are
avid stream fly fishermen, we plan to try the lake again. My only regret
is I didn't get a picture holding Lee's cutthroat. That was an incredible
fish. Those perch made fantastic fish tacos. Thanks again for the great
experience. Send me your cell number. I want to call you when you are on
the lake catching trout one after another. Sincerely, Jim Gaddis
~We had great fun both days. We all caught a ton of
fish, but Sunday was Cole’s day. Kathy said that she and Phil heard people
saying ‘hey the kid in the red shorts has another one’........more than
once. I’m not good at keeping count, but Cole must have netted over 20
fish (at least). He said “it was the funnest day of his life. He wants to
cancel dirt bike riding this weekend to go out fishing again. I’m
attaching a great photo of Cole and Mickey. Thanks again. Karl S.
~Had a good time with Mickey. Nice guy. My son Tyler (8) will have this
fish as his first ever on a fly rod. He didn't need any help. We casted it
out for him but he set the hook and battled it to the boat on his own.

~Thanks to you, I had my best ever weekend at Crowley.
Thank you, thank you , thank you! Your suggestions for flies & retrieval
methods in last months report was right on! I trolled a single #12
Loeberg on Friday the 8th . It caught over 20 fish (we won't
talk about all the LDR's), three of which were over 20".(One was a fat
23' female and the first ever fish I have caught with algae hanging on
the fly.) I guess I got bored on Saturday. Fished all sorts of other
flies- caught plenty of fish but nothing over 16". Went back to that
same beat up Loeberg on Sunday and nailed another 3 fish over 20" plus
almost a dozen others before leaving at 1:00. I am going to mount that
Loeberg! I also want to thank Mickey for teaching me how to midge. It
was windy on Saturday and I got tired of kicking so I anchored and
midged up a half dozen until the anchor would not hold any longer! Paul

~Hello Michelle,
Looks
like my boys had a great time fishing with Mickey, especially my son
Ricky catching the "big" ones.
~Tom,
I just wanted to pass along our appreciation for the great job Michele and
Mickey did to assure us of the very best possible outing on Crowley
yesterday (10/5). Even though the weather was less than perfect and the
fishing was spotty at best, Mickey did a great job of trying to put us
onto fish and before the wind kicked up we had a good 1-hour stretch at
Leighton Springs (island). The trip was a retirement gift to my father
and Mickey was more than accommodating with suggestions on casting,
hook-set methods, and his vast knowledge of Crowley and surrounding
waters. We have been fishing the Mammoth area for 25+ years but still
learned a lot during our outing yesterday. All three of us agreed to a
return trip for next Summer and you can count on us as "repeat customers"
from here on out. You should be proud of the great service you provide to
those of us not familiar with fishing Crowley.
Thanks and regards, Scott Barnes
